The old wine cellar in the town of Berehove in Transcarpathia is one of the highlights of this region, long known for its wine-making traditions. This is a small family-run business, where the owners are both wine producers and their promoters and sellers. Finding a place where the Old Wine Cellar is located is easy, but when you get here, no one is indifferent to the tastes and aromas of local wines that you can taste and buy. And to listen to an interesting story of the hosts about the history and traditions of winemaking in the region, to learn many important nuances - some of them you may hear, perhaps for the first time in your life.

History

The wine cellar is considered to be the oldest of the similar establishments in Beregovo, its history dates back about four centuries. The unique building experienced different times in its biography, but in the end it was restored and included in the list of the most valuable monuments that have been preserved in Beregovo since the 17th century.

Legend

There are still interesting legends associated with this place. One of them recounts that the cellar was carved by captive Turks in the rock. Now on the walls of the basement you can see traces of hand tools used for this in ancient times.

Wine collection

The winery specializes in dry vintage wines, sugar is not added to them. Depending on the year of the harvest and the weather, wine brands of the same name are different in taste.
The wines are made using traditional technologies, and aged in oak barrels. The most complex in the production are Bianca and Traminer, but no less interesting taste have Merlot and Zweilgate. A pearl of the Old Wine Cellar collection is the Müller-Thurgau wine.

Excursion and tasting

A tour of the cellars is like a journey into the Middle Ages, a fascinating journey in those times when wine was the favorite drink of people who heal a lot of ailments and alleviate mental suffering. Visitors will be told about the history of Beregovo winemaking, the culture of wine consumption, and will be taught how to distinguish between genuine and counterfeit.
During the tasting in a pleasant atmosphere, you can get acquainted with the technologies by which wine is made and taste a few of its brands. Typically, the owners are offered to try six to seven varieties of local wine and homemade grape juice (for children and those who do not drink alcohol).
The premises of the Old Wine Cellar have a colorful appearance, you can take beautiful photos.

It is important to know

The basement is considered one of the most popular tourist destinations in Beregovo. It is advisable to arrange a visit in a few days. After all, here, first, there are often excursions of the whole group, and secondly, the owners themselves have a lot of other work.
